Get Active!
Volunteer your time to help RA spread
the word about reduction, reuse and recycling. We need people to research
and write newsletter articles, staff our table at events, track legislation,
assist with event coordination and office work, and improve or create educational
materials. We also welcome ideas for new projects and programs. If you are
interested in volunteering, please contact Richard at info@recyclingadvocates.org
or 503-777-0909.
Keep informed of state legislative
and local environmental news:
Recycling Advocates Action Alerts: RA sends e-mail Action Alerts
primarily during the legislative session and keeps members informed
about when important hearings or other actions are taking place. Included
may be talking points for letters and calls to your local representatives.
Action Alert messages also help prevent anti-recycling and anti-waste
prevention bills from passing. To become a member of our Action Alert
list, e-mail info@recyclingadvocates.org.
SalemWatch: SalemWatch is an e-mail newsletter published by
the Oregon Conservation Network that tracks environmental legislation
in Salem during the session and state agency actions when out of session.
The goal of SalemWatch is to keep citizens informed about moving legislation
and to generate action on key issues. SalemWatch is published weekly
when the legislature is in session and monthly during the interim. To
subscribe or get more information, e-mail ocn@olcv.org,
or visit www.olcv.org/ocn.
RA is a member of OCN.

RA and the Rechargeable Battery
Recycling Coalition (RBRC) needs your help!
Members of Recycling
Advocates, Metro, and the DEQ began regular meetings in January
2008 to establish partnerships and plans for action in order to
increase the participation in rechargeable battery recycling
programs run by the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation
(RBRC). The goal of this collaborative project is to increase the
ways to inform citizens about the issues regarding the disposal and
recycling of rechargeable batteries, promote the drop-off locations
for such recycling opportunities as well as to increase the
visibility of these programs at participating locations. Part of this project includes visits to retail locations that
currently provide RBRC rechargeable battery recycling opportunities.
Individuals of the project group have begun visiting various stores
to provide observations in order to provide evaluation of the
existing program, and we could use your help! Retail visits take
just a few minutes of observation and the target list includes
electronic product stores that you probably visit anyway.
The results from these
"boots on the ground" store visits will be
used in conjunction with other findings to provide RBRC a
recommendation in creating a local pilot project to help increase
the use of their collection opportunities.
